Playing with themes
Posted in September 30th, 2007
Well, I can't use the default Wordpress theme on my new blog. Here are the ones I've tried:
- Nobus
I like this them but the 1st thing I noticed is that the blogroll sites are under the Blogroll heading. I had added categories under the blogroll when I added links to other sites and sort of like that with the default theme. I do like the bookmark widget on each post though. I get digg.com, reddit.com, et al for free with this theme. - MarkTr
I like this theme too but it has the same issue the last one does. It also doesn't have the bookmark widgets. I like the place for a sponsor (like AdSense) link or something though. - Bicycling
I'm trying out this them because I like the whole container look. It doesn't have the link features or bookmarking features I like though.
All right, I've found another couple criteria after looking at lots of different themes. First, I want the text to appear on a white (or light) background. Second, I don't want realy large fonts. Third, I'd like the links to have the descriptions in a mouseover or title, but not listed separately from the name of the link.
- Gormspace 1.0
Ok, I'm trying out this one because I like the look of the blockquotes. I really like how they've added a category listing at the lower left that dynamically sizes the categories though. I'd like to blog about a lot of different topics and I like this. I'd have to customize the colors though.
I've about determined that I'll need to modify the template I choose to include the functionality from the default template for the blogroll section. I'll probably have to add the bookmarking widgets too. I'm going to think about this more later.
